Abstract


Abstract : This research has aim to determine the influence of variations in current and time of hard chrome plating process on the coating thickness and micro hardness on low carbon steel plate AISI 1026. With using variation current and time of coating, the coating can be determined the best conditions and coating thickness can be determined and the highest hardness. Coating performed in an electrolyte solution with a content of 250 gr /ltr and H2SO4. Specimens AISI 1026 serves as the cathode and lead (Pb) as the anode. Parameter variation coating include currents (0.5, 1, 1.5 and 2 Ampere), and a coating time (30, 40, 50 and 60 minutes). Coating thickness measurement using a coating thickness measuring instrument dualscope ® MPOR. Micro hardness testing is done using micro Vickers hardness with a load of 200 gr. The results showed that the greater current and the time dyeing higher so hardness values is higher. The highest hardness value in the use of currents 2A with a coating of 60 minute in the amount of 455.93 VHN. The highes coathing thickness variation of the coating time 50 minutes with a current of 2A current is equal to 4.033 μm. The thickness optimum coating at 50 minutes and decreased coating at 60 minutes. The highest efficiency of cathode coating using a current of 2A coating at 50 minutes is equal to 84.49%.
