Abstract

Protection of urban ecology from the negative impact of urban growth and uncertain
development, such as from the fast growing commercial activities, is necessary. The urban
investment plan of Tipes District has changed its land use from open space (green space) to
commercial use. Therefore it needs proper strategies to restrain the area from environmental
degradation. This includes conservation of natural resources such as greenbelt in order to
maintain urban ecosystem from natural hazards. Re-functioning of greenbelt and planning for
its development would enable to create peace, comfort, and re-creative atmosphere.
Development concept based on “sense of place” would impress greenness, beauty, and
function. The effort of development through both physical and non-physical activities involving
stakeholders creates the district characters of safety, comfortable, identity, and productivity.
