”CITY WALK” DI JALAN SLAMET RIYADI SURAKARTA SEBAGAI ALTERNATIF RUANG PUBLIK
Abstract
For city dwellers, the demand for public space is factual. One main function of the
public space is a means of interaction among communities with various purposes, both
individually and in groups. Public- and private-space are no two absolutely separated entities.
Each has its-own physical structure, meanings, and order. City-walks, street corridors that are
designed entirely or partly for walkways, act as street-malls and public spaces. Here, social
interaction is accommodated (so as consumerism). Individuals in the city-walk may look each
other, to find and be found. Though almost utopia, this is a real street corridor (opened, no
isolation of massive wall), presented with the actual street condition but in comfortable way.
Pedestrian is the most important, conflict with moto-vehicle is minimized, but not be isolated
