KESEIMBANGAN PELAKU EKONOMI DI RUANG PUBLIK KASUS KAWASAN TIPES SURAKARTA
Abstract
Within the last decade, the growth-rate of mall in Solo has been very high. However,
the developed malls tend to decrease or even eliminate public spaces “owned” by the
community, which were so comfortable and free of charge. The sporadic-built malls also create
a fact-denial paradigm that generates conflict with the loss of the small-scale economic actors
(i.e. street vendors). The study aims to provide alternative in solving problems regarding with
street vendors, hence establish friendly climate in coping with gaps between reality and
ideality. It utilized the method of participatory planning by involving actors who are likely to
receive the negative impact of the development policy, i.e. the local community and the street
vendors operate in the area. The result and benefit expected to come is the creation of
comfortable and economical public spaces, which give way for street vendors to operate side by
side with large-scale economic activities (i.e. malls), all in a manageable growth.
