KONSEP PENATAAN DAN DESAIN RUMAH KOST DI DESA KARANGMALANG YOGYAKARTA

Abstract


Karangmalang is a village in Yogyakarta characterized with boarding houses. The tenants of the boarding houses consist of students, lectures, employers, and vendors. There are diferent kind of boarding houses. Some are only specialized for men, some other for women, as well as for both gender. In their arangement, the boarding houses might be separated from the landlord’s ones, or they might be in the same buildings.
The boarding houses in the village have unique condition. In both single and two sexes boarding houses, interaction between boarders is in good relation. This condition become the important focus of this research, ie. territory in a boarding house. The research has been carried on using naturalistic qualitative method, and it took three months time. The technique of data collection were purposive sampling, snowball sampling, and system cross-sectional. The sample for exploration and data analysis were 11 boarding houses. Indepth interview was also conducted. The result of this research shows that communal spaces in the boarding houses become private areas. Interaction phenomenon in houses has been in the room and boarders do not disturb each other in their activities. Hence, communal spaces can be seen as one of the facilities for daily activities, but personal rooms have no clear function
