KAJIAN TOWNSCAPE KORIDOR JL. LETJEN SUPRAPTO DI KAWASAN KOTA LAMA SEMARANG (LITTLE NETHERLANDS)

Abstract


The townscape of Letjen Suprapto street corridor represents a specific character of the old downtown area of Semarang. This area is recognized as The Little Netherlands where a quantity of ancient Indish Architecture buildings (Nederlandsch Oost Indie) stands. Based on this unique potency, the local government wishes to conserve the town area, in which a revitalization program is needed to give vitality of life by placing potential new functions. To support this, a study of townscape of the area was conducted. The method used in he study was rasionalistic approach and focused at sight-thinking paradigm. The result of the study shows that the area of Jl. Letjen Suprapto represents Medieval or Renaissance city (Romantic Townscape) built on some ancient building with Indish architecture style. This area has special character as a sense of visual harmony, interest and pleasure, enclosed and humanized, so that it can realize “the streets as place”.
