Abstract

Many architects believe that form and function in architecture is a response of the
environment. Finally, we believe that traditional architecture is a manifestation of the local
environmental response, including climate.
This paper is a part of an explorative study we have been doing about form and function
change on Buginese traditional architecture at Kamal Muara Coastal Area, North Jakarta.
Originally, the Buginese live in the peninsula of Sulawesi, including South Sulawesi Province.
Some architectural elements, we guess, are an acculturation forms, are spatial pattern,
stylistica pattern, and structure pattern (Schultz, 1988)
