Abstract


Abstract : The validity of Schaeffler, DeLong and WRC-1992 diagrams to predict weld metal microstructure of dissimilar metal weld between AISI C1010 low carbon steel and AISI 316L austenitic stainless steel has been evaluated. The TIG process was done with argon shielding gas, austenitic stainless steel filler metal and heat input 1750 J/mm. The result of this evaluation shows that Schaeffler diagram was the most suitable in predicting weld metal microstructure. According to Schaeffler diagram, weld metal microstructure consist of a ferrite, austenite with less than 5 % ferrite and martensite. It is relevant to the results of microstructure investigation.
