Abstract

Abstract : Waste paper and adhesive can be mixed as a noise absorber panel composite materials. This composite materials can be applied as a room partition or core in the sandwich composite. The purpose of this study is to determine what factors those influence the impact strength of noise absorber panel composite and the combination of factor levels that can produce the best impact strength. The preparation of composite specimens was conducted using a hydraulic press mold with two types of paper, office paper (HVS) and newspaper, in a variety of glueing treatment, without glue, PVAc glue and starch glue. The density was also varied of compaction through the ratio of 2:1, 3:1, and 4:1. Charpy impact test was conducted based on ASTM D 5942- 96 standardization. The test used specimens with dimensions of 80 x 10 x 10 (mm3). The results have shown that the type of adhesive, the density and interaction between the type of adhesive and the density of composite influenced the impact strength’s composite, while the type of paper factor haven’t. The highest value of impact strength have determined in the composition mixture of HVS paper, starch glue, and density of 4:1 are 9.51 x 10-3 J/mm2 respectively. The sound absorption test was the sound absorption in the medium frequency (1000 Hz - 2000 Hz), the sound absorption coefficients (αp) required the ISO 11654:1997 (E) standardization that was at least 0.15. For the frequency of 1000 Hz, αp = 0.15 and for the frequency 2000 Hz, αp = 0.35.
