Abstract

Disabled and elderly people get less attention from the government and other
people, espcially in tourism. Moreover, they are marginalized because of their empairement.
Barrier free is a concept of tourism that has been developed in Yogyakarta since 1999. This
study aims to evaluate the program. Result of this study is that most of the communities in
Yogyakarta show some efforts to respond the program. But, in some cases they have not
understand or miss perception in implementing the program. Actually, at some objects of
tourism, many elderly people have jobs. This mean that the disabled people also have the same
chance. However, many facilities for tourism in Yogyakarta are still inaccessible for disabled
and eldery people. This study suggests that socialization, promotion, and evaluation of the
program need to be more intensively done.
