PERANAN SKETSA DALAM PERANCANGAN ARSITEKTUR

Abstract

Historically, the sketch has had an important role in the architectural designing or
practice. However, in its development, nowadays apparently there are some erroneous views
on the benefits of sketching and the usage of digital devices (such as CAD) in the education
sector and the work environment, especially consulting services. The usage of digital system
considered as already has the intelligence and skills to design, so that they can take advantage
of the digital device optimally. In the world of consulting services, digital devices have proved
themselves as a means of planning and designing good products, while there are gaps of
design quality perceived between products produced by different consultants. The fact is if the
users of digital devices have good sketch ability, they will produce a better product when
compared to users who lack or do not have good ability to sketch. Therefore this paper will
research how far the role of the sketch tools to help us solving the problems as well as in
enhancing creativity in architectural design. The study was conducted by assessing the
relevant literatures, i.e. literatures that describes the results of previous research associated to
the sketch tools usage. The result of this study is expected to give input on education sector,
especially architecture which will produce professionals in the fields of engineering, in order
to restructuring the educational curriculum. From this study, it can be concluded that sketch
was very vital in the process of architectural designing, therefore the designer ability to sketch
is urgently required
