Karakterisasi Sifat Mekanis Dan Fisis Komposit E-Glass Dan Resin Eternal 2504 Dengan Variasi Kandungan Serat, Temperatur Dan Lama Curing
Abstract
Abstract : The objective of this research is to characterize the effect of E-glass content variation, temperatures and curing time on mechanical and physical properties of Polymer Matrix Composites (PMC) with matrix of eternal resin 2504, reinforcement of E-glass and mepoxe catalyst of 0,3 %. These mechanical and physical properties include tensile strength, strain and microstructure of composites. The tests used include resin test, E-glass test and composites test. Composites were made by hand-lay-up method with 20, 25, 30 % of fiber variations and 0,3 % catalyst content. Curing processes were done in an oven with temperature variation of 30, 55, 65, 75, 90, 105, 120 oC and holding time of one and two hours. Tensile specimens of resin were made according to ASTM D 638 standard and tensile specimens of composite were made according to ASTM D 3039. The tensile strengths of eternal resin 2504 varie from 35,7 MPa to 46,6 MPa with strain of 4 to 4,6 %. The tensile strengths of E-glass varie from 3232 MPa to 3597 MPa with strain of 2,33 to 3,33 %. In general, the tensile strengths of composite increase if the curing temperatures increase from 30 to 90 oC and these strengths decrease if curing temperatures are greater than 90 oC. If E-glass content and curing time increase, so the tensile strength of composite will increase. The highest tensile strength of composites is 192 MPa for E-glass content of 30 %, curing temperature of 90 oC and curing time of one hour. This tensile strength increases to 196 MPa if curing time is two hours. The color of composite does not change if the curing temperatures are lower than 75 oC and this composites color are yellow if curing temperatures are greater than 90 oC
